GACS Fine Arts Competion Facts

  • Competition is divided into five broad areas: Bible, Music, Speech, Art, and Academic Testing. Each area is subdivided into a wide variety of categories.
  • Students who place may be offered the opportunity to compete in the national American Association of Christian Schools Fine Arts Competition.
  • All secondary students compete in at least one category, and many choose to compete in multiple categories.
  • The fine arts program gives students opportunities to discover and develop their talents.
     

Overview of the Year

  • Students sign up for competition during the first quarter of the year.
  • Final registration is completed in January. Students who drop after January 15 incur a drop fee.
  • Students perform their speech and music pieces during chapels on Wednesdays in February and the first week of March.
  • Academic tests are given at Old Suwanee Christian School on the first Tuesday in February.
  • On the third Saturday in February, preliminaries are held at Athens Christian School in Athens, GA, for vocal solos and for most speech categories.
  • Bible quizzing is held at Temple Baptist Church in Athens, GA, on the last Friday in February.
  • Art entries must be completed and turned in during the first week in March.
  • Junior high competition is held at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, GA, on the second Monday in March.
  • Senior high competition is held at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eaton, GA, on the second Tuesday in March.
    (Junior high band students may compete with the senior high band on Tuesday at the band director's discretion.)
  • A school Fine Arts Concert is held on the third Monday in March.
  • Nationals are held at BJU in Greenville, SC, during April.
